Now that we have a puppy in the family (and she has dog park friends), we decided that we simply must create a Valentine treat for her to share. This is what we came up with in our kitchen after a little experimenting…homemade dog cookies!
Here are the ingredients we used:
- 1 Cup Oats (Quaker Oats)
- 1/3 Cup Butter (Land O Lakes)
- 1 Cup Boiling Water
- 2 Cubes Beef Bouillon
- 1 Cup Cornmeal
- ¼ Cup Milk
- 1 Cup Shredded Mild Cheese
- 2 ½ Cups Whole Wheat Flower (King Arthur)
- 2 Eggs Beaten
These are the directions:
Mix the cornmeal, milk, cheese and beaten eggs in a large bowl and set aside. Mix the oats, butter, water and bouillon cubes in a pan and heat until boiling then add to big bowl and mix. Add the flour until mixture is stiff enough to form a ball.
Cook on greased cookie sheets at 325 degrees for 30-40 minutes until hardened. This is the first time that nobody in my family wanted to eat the last bit of dough or lick the beaters. I think it was the meat smell!
