We love living in Denver so far and of course the first thing I joined…the DENVER ZOO!!! It has been declared that our red picnic basket is the crafty basket for the summer. It made its way to the Denver Zoo this week with six kids in tow ready to have some fun.
It gets hot and kids tend to get the grumps when they get tired of walking the sometimes long distances between animals. I decided to pack some fun things to do when we took breaks that would give them a chance to relax and unwind when we paused from exploring. Each of the six kids chose one of my six animals that are available on LolliPics for the day. They got their lollipop in a cupcake to get things started. A great burst of sugar is a fun way to start in our book!
For the first break, we had a picnic lunch and everyone got a cup that I had prepared with doodles the night before to color. Zoe’s monkey just makes me smile.
We saw tons of amazing animals doing lots of cool animal things as we walked through the zoo. My favorite two pictures from this adventure are of the rhino and the tiger.
I prepared glue art animal papers the night before by doodling with Aleene’s School Glue to create the animals for each of the kids.
When everyone was tired and ready for a break, we set up shop on a picnic table in the shade and created these watercolor masterpieces. They did an awesome artistic job on their animals.
We were prepared for another break but ended up not staying until the zoo closed and heading home. We got the word search out that evening and did it at home while sharing stories about the fun day we had together.
You can download the word search puzzle here and print it for yourself and your kids here or by clicking on the picture above. Note to Denver Zoo Goers, the cup in the picture is the zoo cup and if you buy it, you get awesome refill deals every time you go. We will be heading back soon and taking our craft basket and cups with us.
