Best Activities to Do With Slime Including Free Printables

Kids love slime. It is so fun and educationally sound at the same time. The fact that the end result of the science project of making it become a tool for relaxation is spectacular. My kids have made a bazillion different kinds of slime and I am exited to share a favorite.

SLIME Lovers UNITE!  I decided to take the slime craze one step further than making it and playing with it.  And so I created a SLIME Time book (printable) that can be used to get kiddos thinking creatively and even writing.  The book has several super fun activities for kids to complete, of course AFTER they make their own batches of slime! This posts shares an easy slime recipe and all the fun ways you can use it for learning.

Let’s explore the best activities to do with slime.

History of SLIME

Making slime is super cool.  I have been making it for more than 25 years.  I first made it when I was teaching first grade and we read Bartholomew and the Ooblek by Dr. Seuess.  It is a great story about a gooey green substance, Oobleck, fell from the sky and wreaked havoc in the kingdom.  If you want to create a literature connection, I suggest you get the book!  You can grab it on Amazon (PRIME even)!

Easy Recipe for Slime

Before you can get started on the activities to do with slime, you have to make it. Here is the easiest recipe we have on hand. It is our go-to every time we want to whip up a quick batch.

SUPPLIES amd Materials

  •  4 oz. white school glue
  •  ½ tsp. Borax
  •  1/4 cup Water
  •  Plastic Cup
  •  Medium Size Bowl
  • Food Coloring and Glitter if Desired

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Gather all your supplies together.
  2. Pour glue into the bowl.
  3. Add some food coloring/glitter if desired. Set to the side
  4. Put 1/4 cup warm water intto your cup.
  5. Add 1/2 tsp. borax to the water cup and mix until borax dissolves.
  6. Pour this mixture into your glue bowl.
  7. Start stirring and you will notice how it starts becoming stringy.
  8. Keep mixing by using your hands and squeezing and squishing.
  9. Keep working with your hands until it’s pliable.

My favorite part is when the warm water gets added.

Activities to Do With Slime

There are lots of great activities in this book that I created to use this awesome opportunity to get creative.  Kids are great with their imaginations when they have a tool like slime as a vehicle.  You can get the printable book in my TpT store HERE.

One of my favorite activities in the book allows kids to become the mayor of Slimeville and invent the city, including the making of a map!

Best Ways to Use Free Printables

You might have seen this list from me before but I think it is worth sharing over and over. Sometimes the people in the back need to hear things a few times, right?  There are so many great ways to use free printables.  Here are some of my favorites.

  • Print them and mail in an envelope with a stamp. Snail mail rocks.
  • Batch some up to make an activity book.  This is great for a road trip!
  • Print and use at a place setting on the table to create a conversation starter.
  • Add them to goody bags.  By the way, goody bags are not just for birthday parties.
  • Package them up with your favorite markers and crayons to give as a gift.
  • Drop a few off at the local coffee shop with fun pencils to spread some happy.
  • Cut them up to make cards, gift wrap and decorations.

BEST Tools For Working With Free Printables

These are my favorite tools and art supplies to use with free printables and why I love them too.

  1. Printer – This Laser Printer is inexpensive and works like a charm.  It even works with Alexa.  Bonus!
  2. Scissors – Lots of printables can be cut up to create decorations and cards and things like that.
  3. Markers and Crayons – All thing ooly work the best for me.  I LOVE all of their markers, pencils and crayons.
  4. Colored Pencils – For adult coloring, PRISM makes the colored pencils that I love to use most.
  5. Twine – For creating banners and garlands from printables, I love this twine best.
  6. Adhesive – Lots of printables have pieces that get cut out and put together.  This is my fave tape runner!

Slime is totally a craze.  Make the most of it.  Create with your kids and learn together.
