Summertime Glitter Journals

Summer is the season of adventures, travels and day trips.  Often on that list is a trip to the zoo!  These summertime glitter journals feature zoo animals and bright, sparkly Galaxy Glitter from DecoArt.  They are super fun to make and then great for on the go writing and journaling.  The Galaxy Glitter is the magic that makes them so spectacular.  This post is sponsored by DecoArt but the ideas and opinions are my own.  It is super fun because it also includes a free set of Zoo Animal Word Search Puzzle and Activities Printables.  Making Summertime Glitter Journals as a creative  kid activity would be great at a party or on a play date.

Glitter Zoo Animal Journals

To make the journals, you will need the following materials and supplies.

What will you need to make Glitter Journals?

  • DecoArt Multi-Surface Paints
  • DecoArt Galaxy Glitter
  • Paint Brushes
  • Composition Books
  • Zoo Die-Cuts (CHIPBOARD) – Laura Kelly Zoo Animal Dies from Sizzix
  • Glue and Google Eyes (Optional)

How to Make the Journals

Start by painting the cover of a composition book with your favorite color of DecoArt Multi-Surface paint.  These journals have Lavender Green and Flamingo paint.  Paint the animals with Multi-Surface paints too.

You can grab an ENTIRE set of these paints on Amazon!

These animals are painted with Lemon Zest, Coffee Bean, Orange Sherbet and Turf Green.  Let the paint dry then paint over it with Galaxy Glitter in colors that match.  Let this dry completely.

My favorite animal painted and covered in Galaxy Glitter (Aurora Borealis Green) is the alligator.

Once the journal covers are COMPLETELY dry, paint an thick coat of Matte Decou-Page over the Galaxy Glitter layer.  Then paint the Decou-Page on the back of the animals, place them on the journal covers and paint a layer of Decou-Page over the tops.

Add a ribbon tied in a bow through the spine of the journal and BOOM, you have summertime glitter journals to take on all the the adventures.  you can bet I am taking mine to the Omaha Zoo next weekend.

Sometimes kiddos need support in coming up with ideas to write about.  I created a set of printable activities to get them started.  You can print them for free then cut them in half so they fit IN the journals.
