Gnome for The Holidays with a DIY Easy Sew Gnome

There is no place like gnome for the holidays (and all the days)!  This little DIY easy sew gnome takes about an hour to make and creates an adorable gift.  It can be used for snuggling or a decoration in the home.  I think my favorite part about this project is that it’s a GREAT way to recycle an old sweater or sweatshirt, giving it a whole new life.  This post is sponsored by Fairfield World, the makers of the Poly-Fil used to stuff this DIY easy sew gnome and make him squishy and huggable.

DIY Easy Sew Gnome

Supplies Needed to Make DIY Easy Sew Gnome

  • Poly-FIl Stuffing from Fairfield World
  • 12×17 inch piece of Premium Felt
  • 6 inch felt circle for nose
  • Needle and Thread
  • Fabric for Arms and Legs
  • Furry Fabric for Beard
  • Scissors
  • Sewing Machine
  • Fabric Glue

Steps to Make DIY Easy Sew Gnome

Start but folding the large piece of felt in half and cutting the top two corners off to create a pointed top, about 5 inches from the top on each side.

Cut arms and legs from fabric, two pieces for each one.  They should be about 2 inches wide and whatever length desired.  Be sure to account for an extra inch for attaching to body.

Place the fabric pieces front to front to sew then flip and stuff with Poly-Fil, leaving an inch to attach to body.

Assemble the arms and legs to the body, pinning them to the inside before sewing.  Sew around the three sides, leaving the top open then flip it.  Stuff it with Poly-Fil (super fill it) and sew the top closed.

Cut a beard from fuzzy fabric and glue it across the top to the gnome body.

To make a hat, cut two pieces of fabric from the bottom of an old sweater or sweatshirt.  This will already have a sewn edge that is nice.

 

Sew around the hat with the fronts facing each other then flip it right-side out.

Stuff the hat with Poly-Fil!

Making the gnome a nose is super fun.  Cut a six inch circle from felt.  Stitch around the edge.  Put a handful of Poly-Fil in the center and pull the threads tight.  Tie them in a knot.

Stitch the nose to the gnome THROUGH The hat, holding the hat in place.  If desired, sew the hat all the way around.

Ta Da!  Isn’t he the cutest!!!
