The world is a crazy place and kindness is the best way I know of to spread peace. This easy sew kindness pillow comes together in about an hour and creates a practical and adorable addition to one of my favorite pieces of furniture, my bed. I love the way it looks against the quilt my mom got me in the Appalachian Mountains when I was in college. The black.white fabric against all of the colors makes my heart so happy. This post is sponsored by Fairfield World, the makers of the pillow insert, but the ideas and opinions are my own.
Materials Needed for Kindness Pillow
- Premier Lumbar Pillow Insert (Fairfield World)
- Fabric (I used cotton)
- Kunin Felt (Premium Black)
- Sewing Machine
- Straight Pins
- Scissors or Rotary Cutter/Mat
- Cricut Maker (to cut out letters)
Steps to Make the Pillow
Start but cutting your fabric to fit the pillow. If you are using this insert, your fabric should measure 15 X 29 inches for the front and also for the back. Keep in mind if you are sewing pieces together, the total size should be the 15 x 29 inches.
Sew your fabric into the front and back piece. If you are only using one fabric, this step can be skipped. If you are sewing at a beginner level, I would recommend using just one fabric.
Next, cut our the letter to spell Be Kind (or whatever message you want to say) and pin them to the front piece of the pillow.
Sew the letters to the fabric with a zig-zag stitch. If you are using fabric instead of felt, use a fusible interfacing to make the letters stable. I love Soften from Fairfield World for projects like this.
Next, sew the front and back together, face to face, leaving one end open. Insert the pillow and the either hand stitch or machine sew the end closed. Ta da!
If you like to sew, here is another fun kindness project that you might want to make. These kindness critters are adorable and make great gifts.
YAY for sewing, making and spreading love.
