Crafty Autumn Treat Bags

Crafty Pumpkin Treat Bags

This project is a great one for using your leftover scraps of paper, ribbon and assorted buttons to create a fun treat bag.

Lay your brown bags out flat.   Cut pumpkins, stems and leaves from your paper scraps and lay them out on the bags.

Cover the surface of a bag with Mod Podge with your paint brush.  Place the first layer of your pumpkin design on the wet Mod Podge.

Cover the entire surface again with Mod Podge.  Place your layers one at a time on top of each other, Mod Podging each time.

If you are creating stripes, place the strips on the pumpkin first with Mod Podge and then cut around the perimeter before placing as one layer on the bag.

Decorate your pumpkin designs with wire, buttons from Buttons Galore and More and ribbon.  If you have a hard time poking wire through the bag, push a large needle through first.

To make the signs, write your messages on orange paper with a Sharpie marker and then cut them out.  Cut paper with a pattern a little larger than the signs and use Mod Podge to adhere the message to the background.  Cover the surface with another layer of Mod Podge then glue the message rectangles to the wooden sticks.

Cover the wooden sticks with ribbon and buttons.

Fill the bags with treats and place the signs in to create some Halloween fun!

Happy Hopefully Mostly Treating and Not Tricking,

Laura

My Creative and Crafty LOVELY Wedding

It has been a while since I last blogged.  I have been busy getting and being married!  I must share that every bit of planning the wedding weekend was fantastically fun because of the great friends I have that helped me along the way.  The wedding and the entire weekend were PERFECT!  I am posting to share some of the most memorable little pieces (photographed by Chris Jennings and Niki Meiners)  that all put together created a magical bunch of memories.  Enjoy!

It all started with an idea sketch.

Which turned into a live wedding party!

!

We made our table decorations using recycled food jars, pages from our favorite love stories, Mod Podge and raffia. Some were filled with flowers and some with sand and candles.  They were magical and just as beautiful for the breakfast the next morning as they were at the reception!

My friends at Expressionery.com sent me an embosser of my new blended family and Grandma Helen used it to emboss LOTS of napkins for our reception and BRIGHT orange ones for our rehearsal at the North Carolina Aquarium!

We had a family blending ceremony and included ALL of our extended family members then filled up these handmade beaded jars to give them as a memory of our day.  Doro did a gorgeous job of beading all of the jars.

Of course my friends at Sharpie sent a really fun gift…CUSTOMIZED fine tip markers with my blended family on them…which we passed out and guests used to doodle in our guest book.

I totally and completed went crazy over our cake topper.  My CHA roommates and dear friends surprised me and not only showed up the wedding but contributed in so many ways.  Niki Meiners BAKED and decorated our cupcakes and cake with help from Carla Schauer and Jen Goode MADE the toppers…even using a piece of my real dress for my little version dress.  I LOVE MY FRIENDS!

We passed out water bottles on the beach throughout the weekend.  Suzanne Jennings, my BFF from Iowa, delabled and relabled cases of water and made them so cute!

I would have never made it without the love and support of our parents and my dear cousins Prill and Martin Kuhn.  Check out my plastic green and blue beaded necklace given to me by the Margeson girls to be my something blue.

I made personalized plates for all of the little people in the wedding party and they used them at the rehearsal dinner and the reception.  I so dearly love the kids in my life!

We made our beach flip flops to wear up until the ceremony and then we went barefoot.  Thank you AC Moore for having such great ribbons and such!  Of course I changed shoes for my magical first dance.   They were already broken in by Big Bunny!

For some extra family fun, we tie dyed on the beach on the day before the wedding.  RIT sent all of the supplies and it was a blast.  The funniest part of that experience was bleaching my feet to remove the BLUE stains after I spilled a bucket of dye on myself.  The ladies at the spa though I was a really silly bride.  Zoe loved her hat creation!

David Romanoff sent us FIFTY black beach buckets that would put to good use…filling them with goodies for our guests!

And the signs…oh the signs.  Jen did a fantabulous job on the signs for the little boys to carry down the aisle and start the processional!  Of course she used her best scissors by Westcott for all of the cutting that was to be done!

Doro created lovely flower bouquets and beautiful centerpieces.  She is so talented.

I printed our programs and got extra special assembly help from my boys.

Cheri spent hours fixing hair and creating beauty.  I made clips for the girls to wear in their braids!

My sister-in-law, Kelly, helped Zoe decorate her own flower girl basket…which ended up carrying not only flowers but her Big Bunny with her down the aisle.

Ryp’s brother, Derek, read ‘The Lovely Love Story’ in the ceremony.  We gave away signed copies because it is such a lovely love story.

And now here we go…living HAPPILY EVER AFTER!

Upcycled Wine Box Crates

I picked up some wine box crates at our local wine store, Barley and Vine, for $5 each and brought them home to make something fun with.  They are each so unique and possess such character.

I decided to redo a corner in our family room where I like to keep some of my “Favorites” so I cleared off the crowded black antique repainted desk of its clutter.

Then I stacked the crates and reorganized lots of my most loved thing.

I LOVE IT!  It was easy and fun.

And now a little about me and what these shelves so dearly hold…

I love to read!  My favorite book of all times is REBECCA by Daphne DuMarier.  I have bunches of copies.  This is my favorite OLD copy.  Sometimes I open it just to smell the pages.

I totally enjoy watching movies over and over again…sometimes just to hear the story while I am busy doodling with my Sharpie Markers!  Truth is I don’t have any idea how many times I have watched Rent but I can belt out every song.

I love mysterious ways of looking at our world including trying to read rune stones…which I keep in a special little heart box.  They were a gift from my Goddaughter and I think they are beautiful.

I love creative ways of putting words to feelings about life and the journey and I am on…

and I love WORDS…especially ones that remind me that it is okay to just “BE”.  The books in this crate are some of my journals filled with words and pictures.

The pictures are of my favorite people in the world…my two sons and almost stepdaughters, my niece and nephews and of course my Ryp and ME.  Yes, I am one of my favorite people.

I bet you have a wine store near you that has leftover box crates waiting for you to come in.  I say GO FOR IT!

Happy Creating and Upcycling and Loving (thing that are special starting with yourself!)

Ahoy Matey – Welcome To Pirate Island

Ahoy Matey, Welcome to Pirate Island!  Pirates are such a fun and favorite theme for parties and celebrations, as well as everyday learning.  I have gathered up a few of my favorite pirate ideas to share with you here, including my own designs on things.

I designed a fun set of tags to use for a pirate celebration.  It is part of a larger set that includes games over on Shop Laura Kelly.

Long candies like licorice are perfect for tying into nautical knot party treats.

Sharks and pirates go together in a funny kind of way.   Shark bait is kind of cool too with simple crackers.

Lots of pirates are known to keep pet parrots.  You can make parrots out of felt as a party craft and send them home with cracker snacks.  If you need a pattern for the parrot, you can get the printable in the Pirate Party Printable set.

Pirates are always in search of gold and treasures.  Here is a fun way to serve up some gold.   Coat mini Oreo’s in Betty Crocker’s Gold Candy and add the white candies for pearls to a pudding cup.

If your favorite pirate is Captain Hook then you know all about the connection with the crocodile.  These darling cookies were made with Betty Crocker frosting and candies.

Every pirate loves a mug of juice.

After a crazy amount of sugar and treats, play a little game of Walk the Plank.  I painted an old slat from the picnic table.

I had so much fun designing the collection titled Pirate Island.  I am excited that now others can buy my clip art and use it to create their own resources to use with kiddos.  You can get it in my Teachers Pay Teachers store.  There are 75 image files!

If you don’t want to make your own resources, you can buy the Pirate Party Printable set over on Shop Laura Kelly.  It has these two puzzles, the fun food tags and the parrot pattern in it.

Ahoy mateys…have a great day!

Make A Yarn Pumpkin!

Yarn Pumpkin Fun

I was shopping in Walmart last night when I ran across the yarn aisle.  I have not played with yarn for a long long time but found myself imagining the fun things I could make with the bright, fun colors…so I bought some.   With Halloween ten days away, I decided to craft a yarn pumpkin.  This is how I did it.

First I cut a 4 inch piece of cardstock to wrap the orange yarn around as if I were making a giant pom pom ball.  When I had the amount wrapped that seemed to work (the more you use the fatter it gets), I cut the yarn, pulled it off the end of the paper and tied it through the center.

Then I did the same thing with the brown on a 1 inch wide piece of cardstock to make the stem.  I tied the brown stem through the orange ball center.

The last piece I made was the stem.  I shaped a stem with a green pipe cleaner and then wrapped it with the green yarn, leaving the end ready to push through the center of the pumpkin.  After I pushed it through, I cut it off at the closest point to where I could twist it to make it attach without showing.

I am heading back to Walmart tomorrow to buy some more colors of Lily Sugar’n Cream yarn!  I am thinking black to make a few spiders and bats and maybe even a witch hat!

So, three cheers for YARN!

Happy Haunting,

Laura
