We have always been a family on the go. I have put together a list of my Five Best Summer Day Trips for Kids WITH craft projects too! I believe that kids need time to be bored and make up games and fun but they also benefit greatly from seeing the world around them. These Five Best Summer Day Trips for Kids are all places we have gone and things we have done. I even created a darling Pallet Art sign from a kit that is made by MindWare to share the day’s outing. It is so fun (and simple) to create with your kids. As a bonus, I made a printable with eight ideas that you can use interactively with (or without) the sign.
Directions for Pallet Art Sign for Summer Fun
Okay, let’s make that Pallet Sign. Start by opening the MindWare Pallet Art kit and getting out the pieces. The only other things you will need is a clothespin and some glue.
Step One
Paint the pallet bottom green (mix in a little white) and the top blue (with mixed in white for clouds). Let it dry.
Step Two
Use the stencil to create the words, “LET’S GO”.
Step Three
Glue on a clothespin (not in the kit). Paint it first if you want it to be painted.
Print out the FREE list of Family Fun Places to Go and cut them apart. Clip where you are going so your kids can see what is coming up next! You can also make lots of cards of your own. Index cards work great for this!
Summer Day Trips for Kids
Okay, let’s list those 5 Best Summer Day Trips for Kids! These are five that we love but gosh, there are so many more too!
The ZOO
The zoo offers plethora of activity, both physical and emotional. Kids connect with animals in ways that we don’t even think about. They make comparisons and stories based on their experiences that are fabulous. If you head to the zoo, be sure to take along watercolors, watercolor paper and brushes. This is a craft that is EASY PEASY to create on the go and doesn’t take up much space in the bag.
The Park
Everyone loves the park! If you pack up and head to the land of swings, slides and teeter totters; be sure to take crayons and plain printer paper. You can create awesome crayon rubbings on the surfaces around the grounds. Kids love to share how things feel (ie: bumpy, rough, smooth, etc.)
The Library
Shhhhh….. Everything is quiet in the library. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t super fun. Cut card stock into 3 x 8 inch rectangles and grab your favorite markers. You can make bookmarks. If you take enough, you might even find that lots of other kids want to join in your fun.
The Museum
Some museums are ginormous and overwhelming for kids. Taking breaks along the way is always a good idea. Bring along composition books and colored pencils to document and sketch things learned along the journey.
The Pool
This is the best place I can think of for sidewalk chalk. Those 15 minute lifeguard breaks are brutal when you are a kid. Whip out the sidewalk chalk and create all the things the imagination can concoct. I love easy summer kid crafts.
