Magical Chocolate Unicorn Sprinkle Cupcakes
Chocolate is one of my love languages. I also am pretty darn crazy about sprinkles. I decided to do a mash up and create something festive and fun using both and came up with these amazing chocolate unicorn cupcakes. They are so easy to make and so darling to serve. I got the sprinkles as a gift from Wilton at the SNAP Conference and am excited to share this fun way to put them to great use. Let’s make a batch of Unicorn Sprinkle Cupcakes. These are super fun to do with kids whether for a party or just for fun. Sometimes the best conversations happen with children while baking or crafting.
Please note, these could be made in any flavor as they use a box mix. They could also be made gluten free and allergy friendly, depending on the mix you choose to purchase and bake. There are so many great box mixes easily available now in supermarkets and online.
Steps to Make the Unicorn Sprinkle Cupcakes
The most important trick to these magical cupcakes is to use the right cupcake pan. This KING-Size Muffin pan from Wilton is my favorite baking dish. I have had it for years and break it our for times when our treats need to be super special.
Step One
Bake the cupcakes following the directions on the packaging. A standard box cake mix makes five or six cupcakes in this pan when you fill the holes up three quarters of the way.
Step Two
While the cupcakes are baking, it is a great time to make your mix of sprinkles. I used 6 different ones from Wilton and added them to an old mix that I had a little of left over. You can choose an mix for your Unicorn Sprinkle Cupcakes but I like rainbow best. Like the box mixes for cakes, there are tons and tons of sprinkles easily available. I often pick up containers of them to add to my collection at the grocery store and sometimes at gift shops too. My philosophy is that there is no such thing as too many sprinkles. The more sprinkles I have in my stash, the better.
Step Three
Once the cupcakes are baked and cooled. You can work with them. Cut off the tops then remove a core in the center of each cupcake to create the chamber for the sprinkles. Pour in the sprinkles to fill the cavity.
Step Four
Put the top back on and frost with white. Add a unicorn horn made from white fondant. Ta Da! You have your first Unicorn Sprinkle Cupcakes!
When you cut it open, the sprinkles all fall out. SURPRISE! It is like magic. I love to see people’s faces when they cut into them without knowing that a HUGE awesome assortment of sugar happiness is just waiting to spill out.
