Satin Stitch Embroidery Up a Magical Unicorn Pocket Pillow
Let’s Stitch Up a Magical Unicorn Pocket Pillow! I don’t know about you but I sure have a lot of fabric and old clothes with big dreams of becoming amazing masterpiece because I save things like fabric scraps from big projects and old jeans for repurposing. Sometimes things work out and these “scraps” get put to good use. If you want to stitch up a magical unicorn pocket pillow, you can put your scraps to use too. I used some satin stitch embroidery in this to keep it super simple.
This is what you will need to make this pillow.

My Favorite Sewing Supply List
These are the sewing supplies that I keep on hand at all times. They get used over and over again and again in so many of my projects.
- Sewing Machine – This one has FIFTY built in stitches!
- Thread
- Ready Made Bobbins – I am not a fan of making my own bobbins so I LOVE these.
- Fabric Scissors – These are great because they cut through multiple layers of fabric.
- Pin Cushion and Pins – The cuter the better. I love this hedgehog.
- Poly-FIl Stuffing for Pillows
- Poly-Pellets for Bean Bags and Weighted Projects – The POUR bag makes all the difference.
- Rotary Cutter and Mat
Directions
Okay, let’s stitch up a unicorn. I am an avid doodler so I did this from scratch BUT I made a pattern for you (just in case you need it)! Start with the white face and ears. I just stitched freehand with the basic satin stitch embroidery in mind, no super special stitches. If you are an experienced embroiderer, you can get fancy.
Add the mane and a horn!
Add two eyes. I tied a knot on the top then stitched to the back to get them to look like this. This stitch probably has a real name!
Sew fabric scraps together to make a 12 x 12 square and then cut out another fabric piece to be 12 x 12 as the back of the pillow.
Sew your unicorn stitching on to the front (or the back if you wish) as a pocket for keeping written dreams and special things. I sewed the top down to hem it before sewing the other three sides to the pillow front using a zig-zag stitch.
Sew the two pieces together with fronts facing in, leaving a three inch opening for stuffing. Flip it inside out. Stuff the pillow with Poly-Fil then hand stitch it closed.
Ta Da!
I LOVE it on my front porch!
I seriously LOVE this and plan to put the rest of this pair of jeans to use making more pillows. This is a great project for my Girl Scout troop to make bunches of to sell in the holiday craft festival.
More FUN Projects with Embroidery Floss
If you like to stitch, here are two more really fun and simple projects for you. This plain white flour sack towel is so awesome with the satin stitched hearts on it.
Making these little fairy houses was a blast. Aren’t they the cutest? Grab all the deets.
