Upcycled Sweater Pillow

I am kind of in love with this upcycled sweater pillow decor that I made as my project for the 2021 Pillow Party.  The insert is a lumbar pillow from Fairfield World. It is a 14×28 inch pillow insert stuffed with Poly-Fil. It is super comfy, soft and squishy. Currently I have it on my bed and love using it on my lower back when I sit up and scroll though Instragram at night.

Steps to Make Upcycled Sweater Pillow

Step One

Lay sweater out on cutting mat, inside out.

Step Two

Cut sweater with outsides facing in to measure 14 1/2 by 28 1/2 using a rotary cutter on a cutting mat.

Step Three

Sew around the edge leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Leave an 8 inch opening to allow space to insert the pillow form.

Step Four

Flip the sewn sweater rectangle right side out and insert the pillow form. Hand stitch the opening with thread that matches the sweater.

Step Five

If desired, make pom poms from strips of felt to sew on the 4 corners of the pillow.

This adds a playful, fun and creative touch.

  1. If I won, I might buy a large sewing basket, sewing supplies, a glue gun, a paper cutter, and other paper crafting supplies.

  2. I would probably buy more cutting plates for my Spellbinders die cutting machine and see if they have any hot foil plates for the Glimmer machine. Thanks for the giveaway!

  3. If I won, I would buy craft kits. I don’t go to JoAnn’s, but family members go there regularly, so I would buy things for them. It would be fun to just look around and see what they have to offer.

  4. I absolutely love uncalled projects especially for the holidays….
Also the idea of a pillow party sounds great. It could end with a chicken flick and popcorn. Make it a sleep over to try out our new pillows!!!

  5. I would love to buy a few different fabrics that I could sew up beautiful socking’s for my family. We moved a while before and, in this house, never had a stocking hanging to be filled. I would love to design a special one with each of their favorite character or theme.

  6. I would purchase some fabric or purchase some craft supplies I always used to make photobooks and make everything fun. I may work on one soon, so I have a lot of cool ideas to look forward too.

  7. If I had $100 to spend on anything I wanted, I would leave the store with a hodgepodge of the items I love. Sewing, embroidery, plastic canvas, painting, knitting, stenciling, oh the list goes on and on. Fingers crossed! ?
