Create some super family fun with a candy cane hunt.  Make it extra special by creating adorable ties that can be used year after year, turning your candy cane hunt into a tradition.  Traditions are part of the magic of holidays and celebrations for sure. This candy cane hunt project is a great way to teach the skill of braiding too.  The twine is easy to work with and the finished ties are awesome because they can be repurposed year after year. Supplies Needed

I LOVE bakers twine.

Steps to Make Candy Cane Ornaments for the Hunt

Start by cutting three pieces of twine for each candy cane heart ornament. I recommend hiding AT LEAST 12 candy canes.

Tie a knot at the end of three pieces then braid it to the other end and tie another knot.

Glue two candy canes together into a heart.

Tie a braided strand through the heart, securing a knot with an opening large enough to slide candy canes in future hunts through BEFORE tying the bows.

Hiding Candy Canes

Hide the candy canes around the house, hanging them with their twine.

TIPS for a Successful Candy Hunt

  • Create the candy cane ornaments ahead of time as a family activity.
  • Turn the hunt into an event with the free printable sign and coloring sheet.
  • Use different colored candy canes for different age groups to differentiate finding abilities.
