Creating I AM Journals for Self Esteem

is is the fifth project in the series Girl Scout Projects to Build Character and Self Esteem.  I love it so much because creating and writing in journals is my jam.  When girls create I AM… statements, they simultaneously tell their brain to start believing them as if they are truths.  Writing in a journal allows one to share with themselves their thoughts, ideas and feelings.  Sometimes writing is a chance to let things go.  Sometimes it is an opportunity to plan and dream.  Sometimes it is merely a form of relaxation and creativity.  This journal activity is super awesome with the help of this fantastic machine from Xyron, the Creative Station.  It turns regular paper and card stock images into adhesive stickers.  Girls LOVE stickers so this is a double awesome project.  This post is sponsored but the ideas and opinions are my own.

To create these journals, you will need the following supplies.

  • Xyron Creative Station
  • Watercolor Paper
  • Watercolor Paints and Brushes
  • Black Permanent Markers
  • Scissor
  • Composition Books (1 Per Girl)

The first step to making this darling and totally usable journal is to create the designs for the stickers.  Watercolor is always a favorite medium for my Cadette troops but markers, crayons and/or colored pencils works too!

Once the designs are created, cut them out.

Put them through the Creative Station is MAGIC happens!  They come out as stickers.  Peel off the excess top layer.

Ta Da….super sticky adhesive backed designs (AKA STICKERS)

Peel them off, one at a time and adhere them to the cover of a journal.  Composition books are cost effective and work great because of their sturdy nature.

If you have too many, put some on the back too!

Sometimes girls (and really all people) get backed up when asked to create on the spot.  These words might be helpful to use in this activity.  You can download the printable to share for FREE.

Seriously, this Creative Station is a GAME changer.   I can’t wait to share another fabulous Girl Scout project with you next week using it.  This time it will be a project that makes a difference in the world so stay tuned.

Cheers to Girls with Confidence,

Laura

  1. Love this idea!! Combining the self-esteem building blocks with a journal they can use to write down their inner feelings is such a great idea!

  2. You know, I never think to use water colors. They are so easy, I just skip over them with my girls. I have a mini Xyron (it makes like 1 inch stickers) and it is fun – whole sheet would be so fun! Love the idea.

  3. I had no idea there was such a machine as to make stickers like this. Where can I buy one? How big can the stickers be?

  4. So cool! We just did a I am board that we decorated with cutouts and markers too! Love the stickers idea!

  5. This is such a great idea. I know at my juniors’ ages, they are all thinking about how they fit in, what people think about them, etc. well, this will help them realize it doesn’t matter what others think about them, just what they think of themselves. They are all beautiful, intelligent, courageous young ladies.
I would love to do this with them.
