How to Make A Felt S’Mores Bag
Being a Girl Scout leader means a lot of s’mores. Every leader needs this fun accessory to carry things around in! From making them around the fire to creating recipes with the girls; we love to make them and to eat them. We love that there is now a Girl Scout cookie named after them too. Making this darling bag is pretty simple and a lot of fun for even a beginner at the sewing machine. I think it would make a great gift, stocked with ingredients of course.
We have a firepit in the backyard on the patio. The kids love to make fires and use them to cook with their friends. It is pretty much every celebration that ends up in a fire with s’mores being made. This Felt S’Mores Bag is a really fun party decoration for those outdoor parties.
Supplies Needed
To create a felt bag of your own, you will need the following supplies and materials. Of course you could substitute colors if desired for a totally different look. I went with the colors of the ingredients.
- 1 piece of Premium Cashmere Tan
- 2 Pieces of Classic Walnut Brown
- 1 Piece of Premium White
- 8 inches of Ribbon
- Die-Cut Letters (I used Boss-O Alphabet from Sizzix)
- Felt Glue
- Sewing Machine
My Favorite Sewing Supply List
These are the sewing supplies that I keep on hand at all times. They get used over and over again and again in so many of my projects. They come in super handy when making the felt s’mores bag.
- Sewing Machine – This one has FIFTY built in stitches!
- Thread
- Ready Made Bobbins – I am not a fan of making my own bobbins so I LOVE these.
- Fabric Scissors – These are great because they cut through multiple layers of fabric.
- Pin Cushion and Pins – The cuter the better. I love this hedgehog.
- Poly-FIl Stuffing for Pillows
- Poly-Pellets for Bean Bags and Weighted Projects – The POUR bag makes all the difference.
- Rotary Cutter and Mat
Directions to Make Felt S’Mores Bag
Step One
Start by cutting three pockets from the walnut brown. You will need 2 that measure 9 x 4 ½ inches and one that measures 9 x 6 inches. Lay them out with the largest one on the bottom and the other two about it with a little space in between.
Step Two
Cut out the letters to spell CRACKERS, MARSHAMALLOWS andCHOCOLATE. Use E-6000 Fabri-Fuse glue to adhere them to the pockets and let them dry completely.
Step Three
Pin the pockets to the backpiece of cashmere tan felt then zig zag stitch sew all the way around, stitching in the ribbon on the top to create a handle. Go back and stitch across the bottoms of each pocket.
To create a greater deal of stability when hanging, it is a good idea to put a small bit of stitching in the center of each pocket in the felt s’mores bag for the chocolate bars and the crackers. Which part of the s’more is your favorite?
Really now…What is your favorite part of the s’more treat? Mine is the chocolate! I also like to add peanut butter to mine. When we go camping we use Reece’s Peanut Butter cups.
