Mr. Rogers Peg Doll Message Board

It has been such a fun month of sharing ways to make things that create and spread kindness.  This Mr. Rogers peg doll message board is such a great way to wrap things up and share how much I love Fred Rogers. I actually grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the seventies and had the honor of knowing this amazing human.  He frequented our Presbyterian church and was adored by all of the children of all of the ages.  Making this project filled my heart.  This post is sponsored by DecoArt but the ideas and opinions are my own.

Mr. Rogers Kindness Message Board

What will you need!

To make this project, you will need the following supplies and materials:

  • DecoArt MultiSurface Paints
  • DecoPauge Matte (also by DecoArt)
  • DecoArt Paintbrushes
  • Wooden Palette Sign (Hampton Art)
  • Clothespin
  • Strong Adhesive

Steps to Make Mr. Rogers Peg Doll Message Board

Start by getting your supplies ready.  I recommend having paper towels and water handy.

Start with a sketch.  You can use mine if you would like.

Paint the peg into a Mr. Rogers doll first.  Here are picture steps.

Tips for Painting Peg Dolls

  1. Let each color dry before adding another color.
  2. Use a dry brush for each color.  Wet brushes lead to dripping.
  3. Add eyes with the non-brush end of the paintbrush by dipping in paint.
  4. Put a coat of Deco-Pauge over dry paint to seal.

Once the doll is painted, paint the palette board.  I painted mine black but you could use any color.

Next, let the paint dry completely then use a strong adhesive to attach the doll and a clothespin to the board.  Once it is dry, add a message.  PaperSalt makes GREAT Mr. Rogers lunchbox notes that work perfectly.  There are also lots of kindness quotes on this blog!

These kindness rocks are a great way to spread some happy too.  They are SO MUCH FUN to create and leave around the community.
