Candle Matching and Addition Game with Ellison

It’s a REALLY quiet Saturday morning in my house with the Passenger station on Pandora in my studio.  This is the perfect time to create a candle matching and addition game with Ellison and my awesome cupcake die from the Sweet Treat’s Collection.

Collage

I cut out 18 white candles, 10 black with white polka-dots and 2 each of 9 colors in the flames using the die.  I cut out cupcakes too while I was at it.  I try to make my time useful as well as my paper used resourcefully.

I used Aleene’s adhesive to assemble the pieces.  About those cupcakes, well you will have to wait to find out how those got made useful on the Ellison Blog in July.  To cut paper to fit perfectly in my die-cut machine and to trim edges and shapes, I LOVE my Westcott Brand paper cutter and scissors!

I added the numbers 1-6 to the fronts of the candles to create an extension beyond just matching and add some mathematics to the fun.

Numbers

After adhering the backs to the candles with the black/white polka-dotted die-cuts, I made a game board with poster board and washi tape and die-cut letters.  Then I set up the game for play.

A match is two matching flames.  The numbers can be used for an extension but are not necessary to the play.

Once all the matches are collected, there are two ways to determine the winner.

In the game pictures above Player 1 would win with most matches and with the highest sum when adding all the numbers.

Happy creating fun, cheery games that teach skills and help kiddos grow!

Cheers,

Laura
