Use catalogs and magazines to create these darling DIY glass magnets.
This is a great way to repurpose and use recycled magazines and catalogs to make fantastic magnets. Magnets are a great way to decorate your fridge and all metal surfaces in your home, office and classroom. Directions to Make Glass Magnets
Note that while this project is sharing a catalog being cut up, this can be done with magazines and photos too. It is fun with letters from friends and greeting cards too.
Step One
Start by tracing around the glass piece with a black marker. Because you can see through the glass, it is great to get the exact image wanted for the magnet inside the lines.
Step Two
Cut right inside the black line. This will make the cutout piece the right size to fit the back of the glass piece. Check it to see if a little trimming is necessary. Cut a tiny bit off on each corner. This will help make sure the paper adheres completely to the glass.
Step Three
Using a flat brush, paint the glass (FLAT SIDE) with a thin layer of decoupage.
Step Four
Place the paper cutout face DOWN on the painted surface then paint another thin later on top of the paper.
Step Five
Once the decoupage has dried, add the magnet to the back. This set comes with the magnets that peel and stick. If you are adding magnets that need to be glued on, I recommend E6000 to make sure it totally holds.
Step Six
Use your darling magnets in a place that you want to add a little personality and joy. Because these are all made from my Laura Kelly Designs wholesale sticker catalog, they are all so inspiring and fun. I added them to these supply cups for this photo but plan to make lots more for my fridge and filing cabinet.
They are so CUTE and easy and fun to make.
Skill Level – BEGINNER/KIDS
If you can use scissors to cut a piece of paper, this project is for you! These are a quick project to make so perfect for kids and adults alike. If you are new to decoupage, this is a great starting project because it is virtually impossible to mess up!
My Favorite Way to Upcycle Catalogs and Magazines
Another great way to upcycle a catalog is to use it as a resource for making vision boards. Hop over and check that fun idea out. This is a great GIRLS NIGHT activity.
