Create darling window clings to use for decorating and story telling with Sculpey®Liquid.
If you have been around long, you already know that I love to doodle. Doodling with liquid clay as a polymer clay craft is literally like a dream come true. It is super simple and tons of fun. The best part is that the final pieces create adorable and cheerful DIY Window Clings. These could be used to dress up the windows at home or used with kids as a learning tool for story telling.
Materials and Supplies Needed
- Sculpey®Liquid Polymer Clay in Assorted Colors
- Sculpey®Tools™ Oven-Safe Work Mat
- Baking Sheet
- Sculpey Polymer Mixing Set
These are so simple to make but do require steady hands and patience. For this reason, I would suggest that while are great to make for kids they might not be best to make with kids.
The first step to making these DIY Window Clings is to doodle your designs with a bottle of black Liquid Sculpey®. When doing this step, be sure to go slowly to get smooth lines and leave plenty of space around the areas that you plan to fill with color.
Bake the doodled black designs at 275 degrees for 12 minutes then let cool completely before moving to the next step. I created mine on the mat so it was easy to get them in and out of the oven on a small baking sheet.
Next, add your color. This can be done straight from the bottles using the available colors. If you would prefer a mixed color, use the lid from the mixing set to gently stir colors together then pour into your cavity.
The mixing create fabulous colors like the pink in this heart.
Once all of your colors are filled in, bake at 275 degrees for 15 minutes then let cool. Add them to a window to decorate and play. These are great to use with kids as story starters.
Look how pretty this star color is. It is the new Amethyst Pearl.
About Liquid Sculpey®Polymer Clay
Liquid polymer clay is a versatile product that can be used in Sculpey®bakeable silicone molds, to embellish clay. It can also be used like grout and for image transfers. I used it for this darling window clings. It is strong and flexible after baking which makes it great for home décor, jewelry, scrapbooking and so many things.
Tips for Using Liquid Sculpey®
- Twist cap for precise flow control – open completely to fill mold. Open half way for other detail work. For these DIY Window Clings I had it open all the way.
- Gently stir before using.
- To thin – add Sculpey® Clay Softener until desired consistency is reached.
- To thicken – pour into a cup and let sit out overnight
- Add items such as glitter, spices, dried flowers and metal pieces to add interest to your designs.
