Easy Mixed Media Bird
This totally adorable mixed media bird is a great little project for crafters of all levels to make and use for decorating OR sending happy mail (or both). I made this one especially for my friend Kelly in Colorado and am mailing it to her tomorrow. We are hiking buddies and this time apart is hard because we can’t get out on the trails and experience nature together. Funny fact, she just sent me a photo of a hummingbird in her garden WHILE I was making this. I consider this to be a kindness craft because it has a place for a special message and spreads love. This post is sponsored by Therm O Web but the ideas and opinions are my own.
Material Needed for Easy Mixed Media
- Therm O Web – Memory Tape Runner XL
- Therm O Web Easy-Tear Tape
- Therm O Web Super Tape
- Chipboard
- Scissors
- Scrap papers, fabrics and ribbons (maybe even a button)
- Twine (10 inches)
- Free Downloadable Pattern
- Washi Tape
Directions to Make Bird
Download the pattern and use it to cut out two bodies and two wings. The beak is optional. It can either be chipboard or simply card stock/
Use the Therm O Web Memory Tape Runner to adhere lines of adhesive across one of the body pieces. Stick paper all over it (either cut, torn or both). It is okay if you have some empty spaces.
Use Therm O Web Super Tape to adhere fabric pieces to cover the open spaces and over the paper if desired. The Super Tape works great for ribbon and buttons too.
Cover the wings with washi tape. It is great because it is so easy to push into the grooves along the bottoms.
Place a strip of Therm O Web Easy-Tear Tape around the entire edge of the other piece of the body. Place a piece of the Super Tape in the center bottom.
Peel the top layer off of the tapes and stick your pieces to the body (wings on the sides, beak and ribbon for hanger if desired). Place the twine for the legs over BOTH adhesive strips at the bottom.
Place the top body piece over the bottom and all you have left to do is create an eye.
Flip it over and write a message on the back.
Stick it in the mail and send it off! Here is a photo of Kelly and I on a hike last spring/summer.
If you decide to make one to send off as a happy mail message, add a fun coloring sheet in your package. Here is one you can download free.
