Harry Potter Sorting Hat Garland

Create a darling decorative garland for any of the Hogwarts houses!

I LOVE this Sizzix Big Shot because it is so portable. I can take it with me on the GO! This project was done on vacay in Orlando during a visit to the Wizarding World of Universal Studios.

Being that I am a proud Hufflepuff, of course this one is made with the colors of my house (gold and black). However, any of the house colors could be used. I am sharing more about the four Howarts houses later in this post for those of you new to the wizarding world.

Materials and Supplies Needed

Directions for Harry Potter Craft Garland

Start by prepping your supplies to create the sorting hats using the hat part of the Sizzix die with an owl and a witch hat. The hat is PERFECT for a sorting hat. To make the “sandwich” that will cut out he shapes, stack the die with canvas pieces between the two plates.

Step One

Run the die through the machine with the canvas to cut out hats. There can be as few or as many as you want, depending how long the final garland is going to be.

Step Two

Place the hats on a surface that can get messy. I like to use parchment paper or a silicone mat that can be cleaned. Paint one side of all of the hats to look like the sorting hat. Let them dry then flip them over and paint the other side. Add an overcoat layer if desired for extra sturdiness.

Step Three

Once the paint and sealer are dry, punch holes in the tops of the hats.

Use a threaded piece of twine to stitch through the felt balls and hats, creating the garland. EASY PEASY and super adorable.

This could be done with ANY of the awesome dies from Sizzix and all kinds of felt balls (or even handmade pom-poms)!
