DIY Polymer Clay Monster Bookmarks with Sculpey

It is day three of the series A Kid’s Creative Spring Break and today I am sharing how much fun it is to use Sculpey’s Bake Shop.  I love all of the Sculpey products but Bake Shop is my favorite to work with.  It is so easy to mold and shape and the colors are simply fantastic.  This post is sponsored but the ideas and opinions are my own.

It all starts with the clay.  These individual packages of Bake Shop are awesome.  You can find them at your local craft stores.

To make the monster bookmarks, I started by creating a monster body with a thick piece of chipboard.  I cut it our to be one inch wide and 9 inches long.  I sculpted a head and legs out of Bake Shop Clay then wedged the chipboard into the two pieces, one at the top and one at the bottom.

I baked the clay bookmark pieces following the directions in the packaging.  While they were cooking, I painted the chipboard.   To create a permanent bond between the chipboard and the clay pieces, I used a little Liquid Fusion.

Ta Da!

The bookmarks are so cute and work great for keeping the place in a favorite book.

I will repeat it over and over again and again.  Creating time for kids to make things and access their imaginations is so very important.  It helps them develop so many skills from fine motor to self confidence.  Clay is such a great medium.  It works fantastic with kids who have stress or anxiety.  The rolling and molding is calming and these kids often find great success.

Cheers to Creating with Clay and Kids,

Laura
