If you are a regular reader here, you already know that around this time of year I get a little carrot crazy.  I think I mostly love the colors orange and green together.  I have tons of fabric in my stash so I grabbed some of my favorite spring colors (including oranges and greens) and made these adorable spring fabric carrot pillows.  I got this idea from a template that has been sitting on my desk to be put away for weeks.  It is the Dimensional Kaleidoscope Dresden Template that I used a while back to make winter holiday decorations.  Anyway, I was looking at it and all I could see was a carrot.  So, used it to make some.

DIY Spring Carrot Fabric Pillows

Okay, let’s make some spring fabric carrot pillows.  You will need the following supplies and materials.

What will you need?

  • Fabric
  • Dimensional Kaleidoscope Dresden Template
  • Fabric Scissors
  • Straight Pins
  • Sewing Machine, Thread and Bobbins
  • Poly-Fil Stuffing

How do you make the carrot pillows?

Cut three carrots out of orange fabrics using the template as your pattern.  Round the bottoms to get rid of the corner edges.

Cut out three green carrot tops.  It is cutest to use three different green fabrics.

For each pillow you will need a front and back piece of fabric.  They can be any size because you are stuffing the pillows.  All three of mine are between 15 and 17 inches wide and/or tall.  Pin the carrots and the tops to the front side of the fabrics you are using for your pillows.

Use a zig-zag stitch to sew them to the pillow front, changing your thread colors to match.

Pin your fronts and backs together with the outsides facing each other.  Sew around the pillows leaving a 5 inch opening at the bottom of each for stuffing.  Flip the pillows.  This is the time to iron if you have wrinkled fabric.  Stuff them with Poly-Fil until you like how fluffy or stiff they are.

Sew the openings up either by hand or on your machine.  If they are super stuffed, you are better doing it by hand for sure.

Ta Da!  Aren’t they the cutest?  Nancy’s Notions has everything you need for sewing.  From sewing machines and equipment to notions and tools; you will find it on their website!
