Use plastic letter beads to make awesome magical Harry Potter magnets.
There are so many great quotes from the books/movies in the Harry Potter Wizarding World. I gathered up a few of my faves to create these magnets that turned out absolutely gorgeous. The trick for a project like this is having the best glue to adhere plastic to glass on a tiny surface. The precision tip for the E6000 worked like a charm (no magical pun intended)!
Piertotum Locomotor is my FAVORITE spell from the entire collection of books and movies. It is the one that Professor Minerva McGonagall uses to call the knights to protect the castle. She is so giddy after she uses it and it just makes my heart so happy.
Materials and Supplies Needed
Gather up your supplies and get everything prepared for making!
- E6000 with Precision Tips
- Plastic Letter (and Number) Beads – This set has the little red hearts too.
- Square Glass Pieces
- Book Pages (I found a beat up Harry Potter book at the Goodwill. I don’t recommend cutting out of a book that is still in tact and ready to be read.)
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Decoupage
- Strong Magnets
Directions
This is a GREAT simple craft project that makes a fantastic and beautiful set of magnets. While these are all done with a Harry Potter themed, note that any book/quotes could be used. It would be fun to make a set for any holiday or favorite story. I might just do a set for Alice in Wonderland or Girl Scouts next.
Step One
Start by backing the glass squares with book text. To do this, trace the square onto a page then cut it out. Use your favorite decoupage to adhere it the the square and let dry completely.
Step Two
Use plastic letter beads to spell out your quotes or spells. Make sure they aren’t too long to ensure they will fit on the glass squares. Then it is time to glue them.
This is where the precision tip works like a magical charm. Because the beads are small and not a lot of glue is needed, the precision tip allows just the right amount of glue to be put in the exact right spots.
Step Three
Let the glue cure for 24 hours before flipping over to add the magnet back. Use E6000 to add the magnets to the center backs of each glass square. The stronger magnets are great to hold things on the fridge or any magnetic surface. Of course I took mine straight to the Wizarding World to photograph.
E6000 is a waterproof adhesive once it has fully cured. It can withstand exposure to moisture, water, and other liquids without losing its adhesive properties or breaking down.
More About E6000
E6000 is my favorite glue because it dries clear and truly holds things together. Whether making a Harry Potter craft or anything at all, the precision tip applicators are perfect for small, delicate pieces that need to be glued with finer accuracy. They allow the make more control and far less mess. Here are a few fun facts about E6000.
- E6000 bonds to glass, wood, plastics, tin, metal, ceramic, cement, rubber, vinyl, leather, fabric and many other surfaces.
- The E6000 family of glues dry CLEAR!
- Once cured, E6000 is washer/dryer safe!
- Dry E6000 glue can be painted.
