Did you even know that World Market sells children’s books. Well, they do and they are awesome sauce. Last weekend I taught a fantastic workshop at TpT Flock 2017 to teachers sharing ways that they can create clay projects to go with these books and teacher materials. I am excited to share some of my favorites. The clay that we used was Sculpey Bake Shop because, well because it is my favorite!
Projects that help students connect with stories from books supports comprehension and processing. I really love this little creation for Chicken Big!
Working with clay is calming and relaxing. It is super fun too. Corduroy is a great book about friendship and discovery. Clay buttons are a natural extension that create a multitude of possibilities from counting to sorting and graphing.
Madeline is definitely one of my favorite characters!
The Gruffalo is a family favorite. The wooded setting makes for great story telling extensions.
Leo Lioni’s books are all magically filled with collage art and bright colors. This one is a keeper.
I would just like to do a HUGE shoutout to World Market for supplying the books AND to Sculpey for supplying the clay. The teachers had a blast and were certainly inspired to continue to create. Look at these teachers at work!
On the same day that I was teaching, World Market was holding an event for Reading Month. I created the printable that was used and am happy to share it here.
Cheers to Learning,
Laura
