Create a Ceramic Platter for Girl Scout Cookies

Learning about creating with Duncan Ceramics is such a fun journey!  Here are the steps that I used to create this ceramic platter for displaying our Girl Scout cookies at sales booths this season.  Everyone loves them!  I have had tons of requests to make them for people so I thought I would share how I did it here and send them all in to their local studios to create on their own.

First step, get your supplies together and organized.

To get started, you will need a cutout of the Girl Scout emblem that will act as a reverse stencil.  I got mine wet to have it stick to the bisque while I painted the platter.  I drew hearts with a pencil then painted green around the emblem and the hearts.  I peeled of the emblem paper and painted that area in in a darker green.  I added dots with the end of a dowel then filled in the hearts with French Dimensions.

I let it all dry then added my words by painting with black.  All of the underglazes that I used were Concepts from Duncan.  I glazed it and fired it in my amazing Skutt kiln and Ta Da!

I gave it to my husband.  He is Zoe’s cookie dad for her troop.  Of course, he loves it.  I made the brown one for Jordan’s troop too.  Her leader was so excited and said she planned to use it all year for snacks at meetings.  How special!

Happy Creating and Supporting Girls Everywhere,

Laura

  1. Oh how I love this! I was a long time Sparks/Brownies/Girl Guide leader here in Canada and my brother and his son are very very involved with Boy Scouts. We have a new generation who have just started and it’s such fun to see this get passed along. I love the idea of making a plate to go along with the cookies. (We have different cookies here in Canada – so I drive across the border and buy some at the Girl Scout store in Port Huron, Michigan) 🙂

  2. Those turned out so cute! Not only could these be made for Girl Scout Troops but pottery customized for your team, organization, life event, and I could go on, makes such a memorable gift. Thanks for inspiring us today!

  3. It’s not surprising that people would want to have these platters – and I really hope people are encouraged to create their own with your post! Girl Scout troops could make them as a group project and then sell them as a fundraiser. Can you imagine going up to someone who’s buying yummy Girl Scout cookies and showing them one of these platters? Insta-sale is what THAT is! 🙂 Thanks for the how-to steps!

  4. I love the platter! It’s such a great gift idea! It also looks like a lot of fun to customize ceramics with a permanent finish! I’ve always thought a personalized plate for special occasions would be fun and making it yourself would be even better! Too fun!

  5. I love this!!! I wish that I had a Kiln, I love to go to Color me Mine and create some fun ceramic pieces!!! This is fantastic.
