Create a quick festive football garland that is perfect for tailgate parties and home decor with felt.
The snacks and the team spirit are super fun but when it comes to parties, decorating is the best part. This simple no-sew football garland can be made in any length to fit the back of any vehicle so it is perfect for tailgating or to use at home. Do you know what tailgating at home is called? It is called HOMEGATING! This exact garland is made with 9×12 pieces of Kunin Felt but could be adapted to a smaller version to make a cake topper, a gift or basket decor.
Materials and Supplies Needed
- Classicfelt 9 x 12 (6 Apple Green)
- Classicfelt 9 x 12 (2 White)
- Classicfelt 9 x 12 (6 Copper Canyon)
- Classicfelt 9 x 12 (1 Black)
- Beacon Felt Glue
- Rotary Cutter or Cutting Board
- Sharp Scissors
- Ribbon or Yarn 10 Feet Long
Step One
Cut out 6 footballs using Copper Canyon Basicfelt. The total length of each football should be no more than 8 inches. A tip for cutting more than one at a time is to pin the felt together so it doesn’t “slip” while cutting. Footballs come in lots of colors so if a specific team is being featured, the colors here could be changed to fit.
Step Two
Cut 9 x ½ inch strips from Classicfelt White. Each piece will need three strips so cut 18. This is easiest to do using either a paper cutting board or a rotary cutter but can also be done with scissors.
Step Three
Cut Classicfelt Black strips to create the laces on the footballs. Each football will need a 3 x ½ inch strip and three 2 x ½ inch strips. Use felt glue to adhere them to the footballs.
Step Four
Glue the white strips to the pieces of Classicfelt Apple Green starting two inches from the bottom about 2 inches apart. Glue the footballs on top of the stripes.
Step Five
Fold the tops of the green felt pieces over about ½ inch and pin.
Step Six
Cut tiny slits about one inch in from each side and two in the center about ½ inch apart.
Step Seven
Thread yarn or ribbon through the holes and hang the garland!
