Directions for Pirate Hook DIY

STEP ONE

Gather all supplies.  Paint a band around the top edge of the black paper cup with metallic gold craft paint.

Basecoat the bottom of the paper cup with black craft paint using a paintbrush.

STEP TWO

Flatten cardboard box and cut apart at the seams with scissors.  Download, print and cut out the Pirate Hook Pattern.  Trace hook pattern onto cardboard with a pencil.

Cut out the Pirate Hook shape from the cardboard box with scissors.

STEP THREE

Cut a slit in the bottom of the cup as wide as the base of the cardboard hook using scissors.

Tear a section of aluminum foil from the package and cut into one-inch-wide strips with scissors.  This is a great way to sharpen scissors!

STEP FOUR

Starting one inch up from the bottom of the hook, tape strips of aluminum foil and then wrap around the hook until the entire cardboard shape is covered.

Insert the plain cardboard end of the hook through the slit in the bottom of the cup.  Bend inside the cup and secure with additional cellophane tape.

STEP FIVE

Decorate the gold stripe at the base of the Pirate Hook with self-adhesive black rhinestones.  You can also add some natural jute twine to the top edge of the Pirate Hook to finish.
