Felt Fiesta Garland
Cinco De Mayo is such a great day to celebrate and learn about Mexican heritage and traditions. Cinco de Mayo, also known as the fifth of May, is a holiday that celebrates when the Mexican army (on May 5th) in 1862 triumphed over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. I whipped up a felt fiesta garland to share with you today. I think it is super cute for a Cinco de Mayo decoration but this felt fiesta garland works for any fiesta!
Supplies needed for Felt Fiesta Garland
Okay, let’s make one. You will need the following materials and supplies to make the garland.
- 2 each of the following colors of Kunin Felt for the base pieces of your garland -Red, Yellow, Orange and Purple (4 1/2 x 6 inch rectangles)
- Kunin Felt scraps to decorate the pieces in a variety of colors
- Buttons and Trims for decorating. My trims are from Expo International
- E6000 FabriFuse
- Twine or Ribbon (30 inches long
- Scissors
Directions for Felt Fiesta Garland
Step 1:
Glue the same colored rectangles together across the tops.
Step 2:
Cut out felt scraps to make things that fit the theme for your fiesta garland. I created a taco, avocado, sombrero and pepper.
For those of you who prefer a pattern, here is a FREE one you can download for the base part of each of these decorations.
Step 3:
Glue the felt pieces to the rectangles.
Step 4:
Add trims. The glue works great for this too!
Step 5:
Let it dry completely. Hang each rectangle over the twine/ribbon to create your garland. Ta Da!
You can use this garland to celebrate at any summertime fiesta. If you want it to be longer, easy peasy. Just make more rectangles and decorate away.
Another Fun Idea
If you are planning a fiesta, here are a few more fun things you can do. Paint avocados as a party craft and make a batch of guacamole! Get all of the directions and details here on the blog.

Ways to Use Free Printables
You might have seen this list from me before but I think it is worth sharing over and over. Sometimes the people in the back need to hear things a few times, right? There are so many great ways to use free printables. Here are some of my favorites.
- Print them and mail in an envelope with a stamp. Snail mail rocks.
- Batch some up to make an activity book. This is great for a road trip!
- Print and use at a place setting on the table to create a conversation starter.
- Add them to goody bags. By the way, goody bags are not just for birthday parties.
- Package them up with your favorite markers and crayons to give as a gift.
- Drop a few off at the local coffee shop with fun pencils to spread some happy.
- Cut them up to make cards, gift wrap and decorations.
