Giant Robot Valentine Box for Collection Canned Foods

February is a great month to focus on love and relationships.  During this month of Valentine’s Day, it is a great opportunity to teach kids to focus out and spread those feelings of kindness and caring in the community.  It is fun to make a giant Valentine box for collecting canned foods, coats or socks.  To make this giant LOVE ROBOT you will need a big box and some shiny materials from Fairfield World’s great collection of products.  This post is sponsored by Fairfield World but the ideas and opinions are my own.

Supplies:
  • Big Cardboard Box
  • Scissors
  • Shiny Materials (Aluminor in gold and silver work great!)
  • Oly*Fun or Colored Card Stock
  • Hot Glue
  • Cardboard Pieces for Arms and Eyes

Directions:
  1. Cover the box in Aluminor (by Fairfield World) by gluing it to the cardboard with hot glue.
  2. Cut out cardboard arms and cover them in Aluminor.  Add slits to the side of the box to slide them in.
  3. Cut out cardboard eyes and cover in Aluminor.  If you want them to stand out, glue paper cups to the backs before gluing them to the robot.
  4. Add red and pink hearts cut from Oly*Fun or bright card stock.
  5. Add details if desired (ie: screws, nuts/bolts, etc.) with hot glue.
If you want to add a sign, use the same methods as the robot being sure to back it on cardboard for strength.
Place your giant box in the lobby at school, work or maybe even your church.  When it is full, deliver the canned goods to the local food bank.  Your kids will be so proud to be difference makers in their local community.
Such a great idea.  Making a Valentine’s Day box that gives back!
Cheers to Making a Difference in the Name of Love,
Laura
