Make adorable handmade earrings with liquid clay from Sculpey.
These earrings can be made in a few basic (but not completely simple) steps. Working with liquid clay is fascinating and fun but does require patience and practice. Every time I make something new using Liquid Sculpey, I get a little bit better at the art of it all. These earrings are a favorite for sure.
Materials and Supplies
- Sculpey®Liquid Polymer Clay in Assorted Colors
- Sculpey®Tools™ Oven-Safe Work Mat
- Sculpey®Tools™ Oven Safe Molds: Jewelry
- Baking Sheet
- Oven
- Jewelry Jump Rings
- Jewelry Earring Wires
- Jewelry Earring Posts with Backs
- Jewelry Pliers
- Clay Sprinkles – I found mine on Etsy
- Permanent Liquid Glue
Step One
Gather all your supplies. I love that one of the newest colors of Liquid Sculpey is Fuchsia because this vibrant pink really speaks to me! Here are some test molds I did to see what the colors would look like after being baked.
Step Two
Add a thin layer of Liquid Sculpey Clear to the jewelry mold shape, and then carefully scatter in the clay sprinkles. The Liquid Sculpey Clear will be white prior to baking. Tap the mold gently on your work surface to remove any air bubbles.
Step Three
Bake in a 275-degree oven for 15 minutes, remove from oven and let cool. DO NOT unmold at this point, but let cool completely. You can see how the Liquid Sculpey clear turns clear, once baked.
Step Four
Once baked and cooled, add a layer of Liquid Sculpey Fuchsia on top of the Liquid Sculpey Clear. Tap gently to remove air bubbles. Bake in a 275-degree oven for 15 minutes. Let cool completely and unmold the MAGIC!
Step Five
To make the exclamation point earrings, join each rectangle to a small heart with a jump ring. Flip over and attach an earring post to the back with a strong permanent adhesive, and set aside to dry. To make the dangle earrings, add a jump ring through the hole at the top of each hoop and then thread on an earring wire. Close the jump rings with jewelry pliers.
