Millets For The Win

Earlier this week I attended a blogger dinner event sponsored by Sprouts (a crazy awesome place to buy fabulous foods), RollinGreens and Grain Trust.  It is always fun to meet up with fellow bloggers and learn about new products and ideas.  This was my first time EVER hearing about millets!  If you don’t already know about them they I am super excited to be the one to introduce you to this grain and the product Millet Tots.  The rice we tried from Grain Trust was pretty bomb too.  I am sharing a recipe with you that we had for lunch today.  I am in love with how fast this tasty and good-for-me rice cooked and was ready for eating.  This post is sponsored but the ideas and opinions are my own.

RollinGreens is a company based in Boulder.   They have such a fabulous story and it was great to get it straight from the owners.  Here is a little information that I grabbed from their website.  “RollinGreens dates back to 1980 when the Cunningham’s founded Boulder’s first organic food truck. After three years serving the community, three kids and a fourth one on the way (Chef Ko), the Cunningham’s prepared to throw in the towel and pursue other careers. In 2011, the company was revitalized by the youngest Cunningham son Chef Ko and his wife Lindsey.  After five years being a farmers market staple and a successful catering service, they launched their packaged product line in 2015. Their line debuted with the revolutionary product Millet Tots. Millet Tots are the only non-potato, whole grain tot on the market.”

While I was at the dinner I spied a jar of millet so I opened it and took a photo.  It is so tiny and delightful.

We made burgers on the grill last night and topped them with avacado, Millet Tots and a homemade honey mustard sauce.  They were delicious.  Because they are kind of like a bread and kind of like a potato, they worked out to replace the idea of bun.

We ate the rest of them dipped in the honey mustard.  Of course Zoe dipped hers in hot sauce because, well, that is her thing!

Okay, so let’s talk about millets and Colorado.  What’s Millet? Millet is a grain that is most often used for bird seed; however, it is gaining in popularity in the food industry because it is gluten-free.  Colorado is the number one millet producing state in the nation, with approximately 200,000 acres planted producing more than 5 million bushels each year.   I created a fun word search for your entertainment.  You can go buy a box of Millet Tots at Sprouts, cook them and eat them while you find the word!

Grain Trust is another great company.  It cooks in THREE minutes in its own little bag that acts like a rice cooker.  The brown rice works for us because it is delicious and gluten free.  Here is the veggie fried rice that I made for lunch today.

And just in case you want to make it too, here is the recipe…

So, get in your car and go to Sprouts.  Buy these two products and try them out.  You will more than likely love them because they are good and love them because you are supporting local!

Cheers to Partnering on the Post with These Awesome Sponsors!
