I whipped up this “Thanks for Helping Us Grow Teacher Gift” with the magnet cartridge for my Xyron Creative Station. I have to tell you, this machine totally rocks!!! I think this is such a great way to let a teacher know that they are super loved because it is kid-made, usable and reusable. Once the novelty of the metal flower pot has worn off (or the flowers have moved on), the magnets come off and can be used on any magnetic surface. This post is sponsored by Xyron but the ideas and opinions are my own.
You only need a few things for this project.
- Watercolor Paper
- Xyron Creative Station
- Magnetic Refill for Creative Station
- Xyron Mega Runner
- Scissors
- Markers (I used ooly’s Smooth Hues because they are washable for little hands.)
- Permanent Marker
- Metal Pot and Planted Flowers
The first step is to get a good finger or thumbprint from each kiddo in the class or group. If you color the tip with a marker, you get a great result. I recommend using watercolor paper.
Next, turn the prints into bugs with some line art using a permanent marker.
Cut the bugs out and run them through the Creative Station.
Cut them out again.
Put them on the side of the metal pot.
Add a little sign that says, “Thank you for helping us grow!” I did this with watercolors and then mounted it onto heavy decorative card stock with my Xyron Mega Runner.
Ta Da!
Okay, so which bug is the cutest. I kind of crush on all of them myself. I think these darling magnets would be so fun to use for so many things in a classroom.
Bugs are so fun in the springtime. Here is a fun little printable set that you might like to use with your kiddos. You can download and use it in a classroom or at home.
Cheers to Teachers, Learning and Bugs (Oh and MAGNETS too),
Laura

This is really cool!
I love that these are made with thumb prints! This is such an adorable gift for a teacher – and this creative station looks so fun to use!
