This wood slice pumpkin wreath is the kick-off post for my 2018 Happy and Haunted Halloween series. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out but I am pretty pleased with it and love having it hanging in my kitchen as I type out this post. It was pretty easy peasy to make so I am excited to share it because YOU can do it too and be totally successful. This post is sponsored by DecoArt by the ideas and opinions are my own. I used several products that they sent me including the Americana Multi-Surface Paint and the Decou-Page. I also got the wood slices in the mail from Walnut Hollow. They worked like a charm (aka a spell which is so Halloween-ish)!
You will need the following supplies and materials to make a wreath of your own.
- Americana Multi-Surface Paint (Pumpkin Patch, Buff Beige, Cocoa Bean)
- Paintbrush
- Wood Slices from Walnut Hollow
- Decou-Page
- Hot Glue
- Green Twine or Ribbon
- Corks
Start by painting one side of the wood slices. It works best to do a coat of the Pumpkin Patch orange first and then when it is dry add another coat with a little Buff Beige mixed in as you brush.
Paint the corks with the Cocoa Bean brown. It is okay to leave some unpainted too. I used a mixture of cut wine bottle corks and crafting corks.
Once everything is dry, add a coat of Decou-Page to the slices and let dry.
Use hot glue to glue the slices together. If you have concerns about stability, you can add some craft sticks to the back for support. Next, add your corks with hot glue to the pumpkins to represent stems. I waited to do this after the slices were glued together so I could have a better idea of where to place them. Add green bows to the corks for leaves and vines.
To create a hanger, use the green twine and make a loop. Add a big bunch of twine as a bow.
If you have any extra slices of wood, it is super fun to create darling little signs.
The Americana Multi-Surface paints are the bomb. I love how creamy they are and how smoothly they brush onto so many surfaces. They worked as great on these wood slices as they did on the apples I cut out of wire mesh last month. You can check that post out too. I have a pumpkin die from Sizzix that would work great to create a garland for the fall. Who knows, I might just do that next.
Cheers to creating handmade decorations for the season!
XO,
Laura
