DIY your own holiday jewelry in a few simple steps with polymer clay.

Materials and Supplies Needed

  • Sculpey Bake Shop Clay
  • Clay Tools
  • Clay Work Mat
  • Cookie Sheet and Oven for Baking
  • Jump Rings

Directions to Make Clay Charms

Step One

Soften clay by rolling gently in hands. Roll out using a clay tool. The little plastic tools that come with the Bake Shop sets work perfectly. I like to roll charms to about 1/8 inch in thickness to make them durable.

Step Two

Cut out a shape with a cutter or hand form one. For this project, the circle cutter is perfect. It could be make in any size. If they were made smaller, they would be great earrings or a finger ring.

Step Three

Add details with other colors of clay. For the nose use tiny orange triangles.

Roll tiny black balls to make eyes. Gently set them on the circle cutout then press them in with your finger.

Make a mouth with little black balls just like then eyes.

Then for the scarf, roll out red and cut into thin strips. Fold the strip over and press the red into the bottom of the red circle. Use your fingers to form the scarf and then cut little slices in the ends to make tassels.

Step Four

Add hole in the top center of the piece, but not too close to the top. Just make sure there is enough room for the jump ring to get through.

Step Five

Bake according to the directions in the package. Set the oven to 275 degrees then bake according to clay thickness. Let cool completely before next steps.

Step Six

Once out of the oven and cooled, add a top coat (matte is my preference) if desired.

Attach the jump ring and the charm is ready to put on a necklace.
