It’s the first day of the DIY Father’s Day Series, 2017! I love projects that can be made my kids. This project requires sewing but it is so basic that it makes a perfect project for a beginning on the machine. I think most dads I know are the grill masters in their families. This apron is awesome because it is kid-made AND can be totally personalized. It is made with Kunin Group’s eco-fi Plus felt which is sold by the yard.
We started out with a large piece of felt measuring 36 inches by 28 inches. To determine where to cut the arm spaces, we took into consideration that the dad in our house is tall. We folded the felt lengthwise and cut them out at the same time so they would be exactly the same and even.
Then we used the pieces we cut out to make the pockets by folding them and sewing them together. This could be done any way really. If your kiddo wants to sew on creative pockets, let them!
We added a couple of die cuts (a steak and a chicken drummy) from my Meats Die that I designed for Ellison Education.
It is actually part of the Nutrition collection.
The last step was to add ties to the waist and the neck. For the neck we folded over the top and sewed a pocket that a long piece of cloth ribbon could go through so it could be adjusted. For the waist we sewed a long piece to each side to tie in the back.
Ta Da!
Check back tomorrow for another awesome DIY Father’s Day project.
Cheers,
Laura
