This DIY Father’s Day wall art project is a great way to create something very customized and special. With the use of kid’s original artwork and a few other materials, you can create a masterpiece sure to be loved by a daddy. This post is sponsored but the ideas and opinions are mine. I received the Design Foam from Fairfield World a while back and am really excited to share how we put it to use in this project. I cannot believe how easy it is to work with, even for kids.
To make this project, you will need the following items.
- Kid Artwork (Square)
- Iron On Transfer Sheets
- Fabric
- Design Foam (On the Grid Soft Tiles)
The first step is to measure your fabric. Each grid square is 3 inches tall by 3 inches wide. You will need 4 pieces of fabric cut into 7 inch squares for the grid squares on the corners and 8 pieces cut 5 inches by 7 inches for the border grids. It is simply amazing how simple it is to tuck then into the foam. You can add glue if you want a stronger bond.
Turn the tile over and peel back the liner. Do the inside pieces first by folding the fabric over and sticking it to the adhesive. Save the corners for last and and wrap them around sticking them down as if you were wrapping a gift.
For the middle 4 grid squares, add you kid artwork after printing it on a transfer and ironing to fabric. This piece of fabric will need to measure 8 inches tall and wide to fit correctly in the foam. This design that Zoe created makes me so happy. My husband Ryp has grown his hair out and this representation of them is so perfect. He wears that shirt all the time so it is no wonder she picked that to put in her water color.
Ta Da! This masterpiece was completed by Zoe, an eleven year old seventh grader.
And this one was completed by Lily, Zoe’s friend. Both girls created their original artwork with water colors.
Because they love to sew, they asked me to create another fabric swatch with their art to make into a paper weight. They are kind of like little pillows but they are stuffed with Poly Pellets which makes them heavier, like a bean bag.
Gifts made with this much love are so special. I know these two dads are going to flip.
Cheers to Father’s Day,
Laura
