Every month Darn Good Yarn has a new box of goodies that ship to their Yarn-Of-The-Month Club.
You can SAVE 15% as a new subscriber! The box contains a skein of special yarn, a pattern and a gift. It is awesome because if you subscribe annually, it is only $10 per month. Last month the yarn was absolutely gorgeous, as in spectacular. I love rainbows and with these deep colors in the rainbow skein of magic, I decided to create an autumn rainbow pom-pom garland to decorate my holiday bookshelf. It came out perfect and I cannot wait to share it with you along with how to make pom-poms in general. As a kid, I made pom-poms for everything from my shoes to my hoodie ties. This post is sponsored by Darn Good Yarn but the ideas and opinions are my own.
To create this beautiful autumn rainbow pom-pom garland, you will need the following supplies and materials:
- Darn Good Yarn (Worsted Weight Silk Watercolors)
- Scissors
- Cardboard (2×6 inches)
- Wooden Frame (I like the open slat one that I found but you could use any empty frame too.)
Okay, so here you go. Here is the “How to Make Pom-Poms” tutorial…
First, wrap the yarn around the cardboard 75 times. The more you wrap it, the fuller the pom-pom will be.
Second, slide the yarn off of the cardboard and tie it TIGHTLY in the center in a double knot.
Third, cut through the loops on both sides of the tie, creating the pom-pom.
Fourth, trim the pom-pom if desired.
To create the autumn pom-pom garland, tie them all together. This can be done by wrapping and tying them or by stringing them with a needle and a long piece of yarn. Both ways work great.
Drape the string of pom-poms across the frame and secure with tape or staples or pushpins or whatever.
Darn Good Yarn makes an amazing line of ribbon yarn too. Check out this awesome wreath I made with one of the ombre packs.
YAY! Yay for beautiful yarn, beautiful project decor and this beautiful autumn season!
