Create colorful rainbow fun with this fantastic glue resist watercolor kid craft.
Glue resist crafts are so much fun because of the way the watercolor paints react to the dried material. Whether mixing colors or keeping them separate, this art activity is bound to be fun for kids of all ages – young to old.
Materials and Supplies Needed for Glue Resist Watercolor
- Craft or School Glue
- Watercolor Paper
- Watercolor Paints
- Paint Brush
- Cup of Water
- Paper Towel
Directions
NOTE – Step One has to be done a day ahead of the painting!
If you are working with a group of kids, set up a work space for each one complete with a piece of watercolor paper (the thicker the better), a cup HALF filled with water and a paper towel. The paper towel comes in handy for dabbing up excess paint and possibly cleaning up a spill.
Step One
Draw a rainbow with glue onto a thick piece of watercolor paper. If desired, draw it with pencil (LIGHTLY) first then use the glue. Another option to keep from having lines is to draw the rainbow onto a piece of paper with a black marker then use a light table to trace the rainbow onto the watercolor paper with the glue.
Let dry completely (overnight is best).
Step Two
Set up your workspace!
Use watercolor paints to fill in the empty spaces in the rainbow.
Colors can be mixes or done in single shades. This is totally up to the artist.
Step Three
Once the paint is dry, mount it onto a larger piece of colored paper to create a frame. Hang and display.
