Resin Coasters DIY with Buttons
Making a handmade coaster is a great way to create something with tons of personality and character. I am super excited to show you how to make adorable coasters using buttons. Buttons are awesome because they come in bazillions of colors, shapes, sizes and styles. They can be assorted to feature team colors, school spirit or whatever combinations brings you joy. I find joy in the assortment of mixed matched brightly colored things. Let’s do a resin coasters DIY with buttons!
Materials and Supplies Needed
- Assorted Buttons from Button Jam
- Resin Kit (ETI EasyCast Epoxy)
- Stirring Sticks
- Measuring Cup
- Gloves
Directions
Firstly, make sure all molds are clean. This is important to keep any debris or yucky stuff on your project. The molds should also be dry. It is a good idea to select your buttons before you start too. Button Jam has so many amazing ones that this might take some time! Note that some of the buttons might be too thick for the coaster!
Step One
Secondly, mix the EasyCast Clear Casting Epoxy. Pour EQUAL parts from each bottle supplied in the box into the mixing cup. The more coasters you plan to make – the more you will need. Neext, slowely stir the mixture with the stirring stick for about two minutes, scraping the sides. To get the best results, pour the resin into a new mixing cup and stir for an additional minute with a new, clean stirring stick. Be sure to work in a well-ventilated area and wear disposable gloves.
Note to beginners – start by making a single coaster to get the feel for this type of crafting. This will set you up for success with your coasters project.
Step Two
Pouring the resin into the mold is my favorite. Pour a thin layer on the bottom of the mold.
Step Three
Place your buttons in the thin layer of poured resin. Know that they are going to shift a little when more resin is added but take the time to get it close to what you like. Resin is a bit of a reveal craft – meaning that it might change a little when it sets.
Add more resin to the depth you would like your coasters to be. Use a stirring stick or a toothpick to adjust buttons that might have shifted. If there are any air bubbles, go over them with a heat gun or a lighter and they will disappear.
Step Four
Let the resin sit for at least 24 hours to completely set. Then remove from the mold. This is the most rewarding part of the project for sure.
Enjoy your coasters! They are perfect to use indoors and outdoors. I really love the back side of this one too.

I love making resin charms too. Check this one out here.
How to Clean A Resin Coaster
If you need to clean the resin coasters or give them a light polish, try a damp microfiber cloth. You can also clean it with a mild dish soap and water but dry it right away. The resin is water resistant but not waterproof.

Ten Reasons to Craft
I am going to say this again. Crafting is just a great idea. It is proven that crafting can be really good for mental and emotional health. Studies show that making and crafting can lower anxiety. Another benefit to crafting is that it creates connection. When we make things and give them to others, we spread kindness and love. Here are my top ten reasons to craft with kids, and I mean kids of all ages.

- Decor – Through making and crafting, I can totally customize every aspect of my decor.
- Gift Giving – Gifts is totally my love language. I love to make handmade gifts.
- Offline Time – Crafting keeps me off of my phone and social media. We all know this can be beneficial.
- Income – Because I craft and sell items that I make, I have an additional income source.
- Fun – I like to have fun and to me, making things is fun.
- Socializing – Attending events where crafting is a part gets me out and around others with like minds.

I love this idea. I have a lot of old buttons my Mom had in her sewing tin. Iām going to try this with those. Thank you.
