You Tie Me in Knots Valentine Yarn Craft

There are so many cute and clever ways to spread love for Valentine’s Day.  You Tie Me in Knots Valentine projects are a fun way to use yarn in making handmade decor AND Valentines without having to know how to crochet or knit.  If you aren’t sure how to braid, it’s probably a good idea to watch a quick video on it because it is a skill needed for this project.  To make the yarn heart tied in a knot I used Red Heart’s Super Saver CHUNKY yarn.

What will you need to make the project?

  • Red Heart Super Saver Chunky Yarn (Pink or Red and Gray)
  • Tacky Glue
  • Wooden Heart Cutout
  • Sharp Scissors
  • Red Heart Pom and Tassel Maker (I LOVE THIS TOOL!)

Directions to Make You Tie Me in Knots Valentine Wooden Heart Decor

Start by covering the surface of your heart in glue.  Spread the glue around.

Wrap the yarn up and down, covering the heart, adding glue as needed.  It is okay if it doesn’t completely cover to the very edges. Just get as close as possible.  While the glue is drying, braid yarn in the same color used to cover the heart (six pieces of yarn with two in each part of the braid) being sure your final piece is a little longer than the perimeter of the heart.

Glue the braided piece around the edge of the heart, tying knots in the ends to complete.  Trim any excess yarn.

Using the gray yarn, make two small pom-poms with the Red Heart Pom-Pom Maker.  To make them small, only wrap around two of the spools on the tool.  To see a complete video on how to use this tool, visit my YouTube HERE.

With the gray yarn, make another braided piece like the first, long enough to wrap around the heart and tie in a knot.  ie the gray piece in a knot around the heart and tie the pom-poms to the ends of the pieces.  Trim any extra and BAM, it’s the cutest decoration.
