Create a magical unicorn ornament with polymer glitter clay.
The new kit from Sculpey is simply magical. It comes with EVERYTHING you need (except the oven of course) to make endless projects with different kinds of polymer clay and tools. The first project I created with the contents of the kit is this darling unicorn ornament because GLITTER is awesome and the holidays are around the corner. Plus, doesn’t everyone love a polymer clay unicorn ornament?
Before I share the directions to make the unicorn, let me tell you all about the kit.

Polymer Clay Unicorn With Glitter
This is a super fun and simple beginner project made with the contents from the kit. I chose the glitter clays (and the Black Bake Shop) for this first one but plan to make many more. I am a HUGE Bake Shop fan because the bars of clay are so soft and easy to work with.
Step One
Start by cutting the white glitter clay block in half. Roll it into a ball then use the roller to flatten it to about 1/4 inch thick. With your fingers, gently sculpt the circle into the shape of a unicorn head.
Step Two
To add the muzzle to the unicorn, use pink glitter clay. Cut off 1/8 of the block and roll it out then shape to fit a thin layer over the bottom of the head. Press it gently into the white and cut off any extra.
Step Three
This is my favorite step because I LOVE rolling out the clay “snakes”. It reminds me of when my students would do it and find so much joy in how long they could make them. Clay is such a great medium for kids to work with and express their creativity.
Using small pieces of the glitter clay blocks, roll “snakes” and press them gently together.
Step Four
Use the shorter piece to make the front of the unicorn mane. Press the ends together and press gently into the back of the head. Twist the clay around the to the front and press gently into the white. Press these ends together too.
Step Five
Make a silver unicorn horn by mixing a little white glitter clay with black. Use your fingers to mold its shape and press into back of head. Keep in mind that if this is too thin, it might break easily.
Step Six- Adding Details to Polymer Clay Unicorn
- Roll two tiny pieces of black into balls and press into head for eyes.
- Mold and press in two tiny white ears.
- Use one of the tools to make little marks in the muzzle for nostrils.
- Roll a thin white snake and wrap over the place where the muzzle intersects the face. Press in gently.
Step Seven
Add a hanger to the unicorn by twisting one of the pieces of wire provided in the kit and pushing the ends into the top back of the head BEFORE baking.
Bake at 275 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Let cool before hanging as a decoration.
